Why Use A Recruiter?

All right, you know most of the managers in town. So, why should you use a recruiter? There are several excellent reasons – especially if you already know the recruiting managers. For example…

  • If you contact a manager on your own, you risk compromising a personal with a business relationship with that manager. If the manager feels he already knows you, then he will think that he is the value added and the reason why you are interested in joining his office. Remember … you called him. That fact can significantly compromise your negotiating position as it relates to your “deal”. After all, if he feels that he’s “got” you, why would he need to pay up for you?
  • Every manager has a boss. He will definitely mention to his boss at some point that you called him – if for no other reason than to indicate how well he is perceived in his community. If he then ever has to go to his boss and ask for a large deal for you, his boss will certainly question the necessity for it. After all, you called him. Why would he have to pay up for you? It will be embarrassing for him to even ask for a large deal – let alone a “break the bank” one.
  • If we introduce or represent you, we can always suggest or imply that there will be very strong competition for you. We always imply that there is a higher offer out there from someone else – or that there will be one!
  • We represent brokers throughout the entire country, therefore we are totally aware of all deals by all firms everywhere in every region, district, and division. A local manager isn’t. He is probably not even aware of his own firm’s flexibility on deals, not to mention competitors’ deals. We will tell him about deals which his own firm has offered in different regions or even in different branches within his own region. In other words, we will enlighten him about flexibilities that he may have, but that his boss may not want him to know about.
  • We are independent third parties. As such, we are always available as potential go-betweens in case tough negotiations or discussions need to be held. This avoids making either party feel uncomfortable and lets a new relationship get off to a good start without any doubts or bad feelings.

And …perhaps most important of all…

  • We are a FREE service to you. In virtually every case in which we are involved, our fee is paid out of a recruiting budget that may not even affect that office’s P&L. We have never seen a situation in which a broker’s deal is reduced because of our involvement … for the reasons we just listed … We enhance and maximize your deal – at no expense to you.

So, the real question is: why not use a recruiter?
